Advice from Oral B about sensitivity

TOOTH SENSITIVITY

Plaque and food left on the teeth and gums can cause the gums to bleed. The gums become swollen and when you brush they will bleed. It is however very important to keep  brushing to remove the plaque or they will continue to become more inflamed day on day. Brush twice a day and floss and after 7 to 10 days the bleeding should stop. This condition is called gingivitis and is reversible as long as you keep the area plaque free.

Sensitivity

If you have pain when hot or cold touches the tooth it can be down to tooth sensitivity. This occurs when the gum shrinks from around the gum line. It can be easily rectified by using a sensitive toothpaste such as Sensodyne. Warm the toothpaste in the tube under warm running water then rub the toothpaste onto the tooth using your finger. Take time to place it all over the tooth concentrating on the gumline as this is where the nerve endings are. This needs to be done 2 to 3 times a day for at least 2 weeks. Don’t over stress your immune system

We rely on our immune system to keep us defended against all types of attacks from our environment. From defense against infection such as TB, flu to the common cold (a coronavirus). It can under react, as against some cancers, threatening our existence, or over react to a stimulus such as Asthma, anaphylaxis or in some cases covid- 19 (a different coronavirus).
So do our mouths matter?- YES they do!. Over 95 % of human beings have an inflammatory response to external stimulus in our gums- the start of periodontal disease. Dental caries (decay) is very common.
Keep our mouths healthy- clean our mouths twice daily , see the hygienist at least twice a year –
Watch our diets – limit sugar, alcohol and stop smoking. Give our immune system the best chance to fight more virulent organisms- visit your dentist- Join my dental plan for priority appointments and advice.

The practice will remain open  during the corona-virus  pandemic.

The dental advice from the  profession in line with government guidelines  suggests that routine dental maintainance be postponed temporarily.

However we are open to  treat  registered patients who are in pain or discomfort, and we ask them to adhere to the 2 meter rule, and use the hand sanitisers and masks provided. Please do not bring family members with you.

Please phone 01554 774509 for further advise.

CORONOVIRUS UPDATE

Following the recent advice from the Chief medical Officer.
The dental practice WILL BE OPEN throughout this Coronovirus pandemic.
However there are restrictions on what dental procedures we have been advised to do as the Virus is spread through droplets and aerosols.
Aerosols are created in the dental practice whenever fillings, root filling, crowns , bridges and ultra sonic dental hygiene work is carried out.
So to protect staff and patients these have been temporarily suspended.
However, other dental procedures such as examinations , dressings, x-rays, dentures, impressions, extractions and hand scaling are safe to carry out.
Also DENTAL EMERGENCIES (tooth ache) can be
managed as normal.
PLEASE REST ASSURED THE SAFETY OF PATIENTS AND STAFF ARE A PRIORITY AND OUR CROSS INFECTION PROCEDURES ARE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.
We would also advise patients who are characterised as vulnerable such as over 70 years olds , and patients with a underlying medical condition such as cardiovascular disease to refrain from routine dentistry for the time being.
HOWEVER IF THE HAVE A DENTAL EMERGENCY WE WILL SEE YOU AS NORMAL.

Gum disease

pic1

Gum disease (periodontal disease)  affects 98% of us and is the most common cause of tooth loss. Plaque and calculus collects on or around teeth and undermines the gum health causing bleeding gums. Smoking makes things worse!

50% of people with gum disease will lose their teeth.

There is also a link with heart disease  diabetes and other chronic illness-

Good oral hygiene- cleaning teeth twice a day with an electric tooth brush and using glides teepees and floss will help to stop this. Also a regular visit to our HYGIENIST will help keep your mouth healthy.

So healthy mouth- healthy body!

Visit our hygienist to find out more.
